From session to pull request

A session that finishes its work opens a pull request on GitHub, and Rondar follows the checks of the repository.

Know what happens when a session finishes

When the agent finishes a change in Regular mode, Rondar does these steps for you:

  1. It commits the changes on the branch of the session.
  2. It pushes the branch to GitHub.
  3. It opens a pull request into the default branch of the project.
  4. It waits for the checks of the repository.

The session shows each step: Preparing pull request, then Checking pull request, then Ready to review.

A Rondar session that is ready to review, with the work of the agent and its pull request

A session in Plan mode does not open a pull request, because it does not change code.

2

Connect GitHub first

Rondar needs a connected GitHub account that can push to the repository. Connect it in Settings → Connections. An organization on GitHub can ask you to authorize access separately.

3

Let Rondar repair failing checks

If a check of the repository fails, Rondar gives the failure to the agent and the agent corrects it on the same branch. The session then shows Repairing pull request. Rondar tries a small number of times and then stops.

If the pull request is behind its base branch, Rondar can update it from the base branch.

When Rondar cannot continue, the session shows PR needs attention and a card tells the cause. Select Retry after you correct the cause. The usual causes are these:

  • GitHub is not connected, or its connection ended. Connect GitHub again in Settings.
  • The connected account cannot push to the repository.
  • The branch of the session has no commit, because the agent changed no file.
4

Review the changes

Open Changes in the session to see the pull request, its commits and each changed file. Open pull request opens it on GitHub, where you review and comment as usual.

To change something, write to the session. The agent pushes the correction to the same pull request.

On the Sessions page, the Open PR filter shows the sessions that have an open pull request.

5

Turn the automatic pull request off

If you prefer to decide when a pull request is opened, open Settings → Agent defaults, expand Advanced automation, and turn off Automatically create PRs when agents finish.

With the setting off, a session keeps its changes on its branch. Commit and push them from Changes, then open the pull request on GitHub from the pushed branch.

6

Ship the pull requests

A pull request that is ready can go into a release, alone or with others. Ship a release gives the steps.
